Are you too focused and missing the obvious?

Are you too focused on one thing – whether it’s in your business or in your personal life, that you are missing something as obvious as a gorilla walking into the room? No judgments here. Over 50% of us subject to the intentional blindness experiment miss the obvious! That’s a sobering phenomenon that gets even the best of us, at times. No sense in hiding from it.

So, we have a problem - potentially. As highlighted often, the beauty of small business is that we are nimble! All that is required is to keep aware and leverage the tools available to us, of which there are many. One I swear by is the 80/20 rule. It was formulated in the late 19th century by the Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto. The “Pareto Principle”: 80% of results, work, etc. comes from 20% of causes, actions, work being done. This is not set in stone and will vary, but it’s a theory that holds true over time.

How can you use this to your advantage? Spend 80% of your time/effort/attention on the 20% that matters most – this can be activities, people, etc. Spend the remaining 20% of your time on the 80% that is everything else. In running your business, this rule aligns well with CEOs who focus on the priorities - the things that matter most. And let’s get real if you’re doing it right, that’s cash Xow and growing the company - so that it is not only sustainable but viable, long term. (PS: you can grow your income all day, every day, but what’s the point if you’re not doing so efficiently?)

We’re committed to inspiring and supporting our small business 5/17/22, 2(46 PM https://bigpicresults.freshmarketer.com/mas/ Page 2 of 8 community to make more in less time, and we hope those are a few tidbits you can implement today. If you want to go deeper on all of the above and more, hit us up!
